Readers, welcome back to WNC magazine—I’m thrilled to be sharing stories from the mountains with you once again. After pausing our print production in Winter 2025, we’ve returned to the page this spring with newsy updates, local makers and artisans, history lessons, travel guides, events, and more.
Since the last edition of WNC was released, our region has experienced many profound losses due to Hurricane Helene. However, Western North Carolina has shown incredible resiliency and compassion; as spring arrives, our home will continue to rebuild and blossom. On our website, you’ll find many worthy causes to support; you can even get to know a few of the dedicated folks and their organizations who’ve made a difference in the community in “Helene Heroes” (page 56).
Although some parts of Western North Carolina still aren’t welcoming tourists because of storm damage, most of our region is open for locals and visitors alike. Buncombe, Transylvania, and Macon Counties, for example, have all reopened, which is excellent news considering they are home to some of the most stunning public gardens and natural reserves in the North Carolina mountains. Read about six of our favorite gardens blooming this spring on page 68. Tucked in between these pages, we’ve also got the latest edition of WNC Weddings, which showcases several glowing, original celebrations of love, as well as local rings and tips for crafting a unique big day (page 107).
Love WNC magazine? There are many ways to support us beyond a subscription purchase. This spring, we’re launching the members-only WNC Magazine Club, an exclusive social club that helps you connect with our community through special events, ticket giveaways, happy hours, and more (page 25). Additionally, our Digital Edition—a virtual flipbook of the magazine—is now available for purchase online, so you’ll always have a copy wherever you go (print subscribers also receive complimentary access to the Digital Edition). Our annual photo contest, Images of Western North Carolina, is also live for submissions and voting during the spring months; be sure to choose your favorites online, and stay tuned for the final results, which will be published this summer.
